Wind Mountain – A quick hike

Awhile back, when the weather was still cold and mostly gross outside, we had one glorious, sunny day. I took advantage with a short hike in the Columbia River Gorge. I found this hike online after doing a little searching for something close to Portland that wouldn’t be snowed in at the top. The hike is Wind Mountain and it’s a fun little 2.5 mile round trip hike up a small “mountain”. At the top you’re rewarded with views of the gorge, the top of Mt. St. Helens, and the small town of Carson, WA down below. This mountain was also a spirit quest site for Native Americans and you can see the remains of this at the top. There are several large piles of rocks resembling bird nests perched at the top, mostly on the side of the mountain where all the wind blows. This is really all that I know about them since the once informational signs at the top are now missing or unreadable. However, this was a great little hike, that sends you straight up and then straight back down with several rewarding views. When I went, there were hardly any people around aside from a teen couple canoodling at the top.
